Exploring Jewish Folk and Choral Music
With Rabbi Meir Mitelman
Music is the language of the soul. In this two part course, we will explore selected gems of soulful Jewish music that inspire so many of us and have infused traditional prayers with spirituality and meaning. Our focus will include Jewish “folk song” type of music, prayers that have become popular in synagogues, and other genres that express a wide range of thoughts and feelings about our past, our present, and our dreams for the future. We will listen to, sing, and learn the English translation of the beautiful music of several beloved, renowned Jewish songwriters and singers. Among them are Shlomo Carlebach, Debbie Friedman, The Rabbis’ Sons, and others. Our classes will also include highlights of their lives.
