Giving Tuesday

Dear Friends:

Many of us are so fortunate to be surrounded by loved ones and are able to provide for our family with basic necessities. Then there are the thousands of people in our community who are alone and struggling.  They turn to us every day for assistance and support.

This year, on Tuesday, November 27, The Marion and Aaron Gural JCC is participating in #GivingTuesday. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y – a community and cultural center in New York City − #GivingTuesday inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in. Over $300 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.

We would like to suggest the following ways you can help us to provide for those members of our community who are alone, have no one to turn to and need our help.
  • You can purchase a gift card from a local store such as a supermarket, restaurant, toy store, shoe store, clothing store or pharmacy. Our team of social workers will distribute these gift cards to our most vulnerable clients.
  • Drop off new children’s pajamas or non-perishable food which will be used at The S.H.O.P., the JCC’s new Sustenance Hope Opportunities Place.
  • Donate your old gaming system. We know many families will be purchasing new systems as Hanukkah gifts. Why not donate your current Wii, Xbox, PlayStation or DS to a family who would otherwise not be able to own one.
  • Make an appointment to meet with one of our volunteer specialists who can share with you the many ways we use volunteers and discuss the meaningful opportunities we offer.
All items can be dropped off at The Marion & Aaron Gural JCC, 207 Grove Avenue in Cedarhurst. Please call Stacey Feldman at 516-569-6733 for more information.
Thank you for giving back to members of our community who need our help.
